With Lee Jung-hoo running, it becomes an infield hit!

Lee Jung-hoo started as the third batter and center fielder at a home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates of the Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2024 at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, on the 28th (Korea time), and recorded one hit in four times at bat. Lee's batting average for the season slightly declined from 0.271 to 0.270 in the past.

San Francisco Giants lost 3-4 to Pittsburgh after extra innings, bringing its tally to 13 wins and 15 losses. In contrast, Pittsburgh, which avenged its loss the previous day, matched its winning percentage with 14 wins and 14 losses. San Francisco Giants starter Jordan Hicks performed well by allowing five hits, nine strikeouts and one run in six innings, but ended the game without receiving support from batters, resulting in no win or loss.

San Francisco's lineup consists of Austin Slater (right fielder), Wilmer Flores (first baseman), Lee Jung-hoo (center fielder), Matt Chapman (third baseman), Patrick Bailey (catcher), Jorge Soler (designated hitter), Michael Confoto (left fielder), Tyro Estrada (second baseman) and Nick Ahmed (striker). The starting pitcher was right-handed fire bowler Hicks.

With right-handed batter Slater and Flores placed in the table setter, Lee will form a center hitter line with Chapman and Bailey. To Lee, the third hitter is nothing new. Recently, San Francisco is deploying right-handed batters forward, adjusting Lee's batting order to No. 3 when its opponent team's starting pitcher is a left-handed pitcher.

Pittsburgh, an away team that started left-hander Martin Perez, formed its lineup in the order of Andrew McCutchen (designated hitter), Brian Reynolds (left fielder), Key Brian Hayes (third baseman), Connor Joe (right fielder), Jack Swinski (center fielder), Joy Bart (catcher), Jared Triolo (second baseman), Rowdy Tellez (first baseman) and Alika Williams (striker).

In his first at-bat, Lee Jung-hoo aimed for a three-pitch sinker with a ball count of one ball and one strike against Perez, but a foul filled the ball with one more strike. Lee, who was forced into an unfavorable ball count, swung and missed a four-pitch changeup and struck out.

Lee also failed to get on base in his second at-bat in the bottom of the fourth inning. He targeted the first-pitch sinker with one out, but the ball headed straight to center fielder Swinsky. However, he recovered his regret with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when his team was leading 1-0. After the full count match, he pushed a seven-pitch sinker to send the ball to shortstop, and ran all out to the first base. As Lee's foot arrived at the first base earlier than shortstop Williams' throw, the first base umpire declared safe.

Lee Jung-hoo also showed his presence in defense. He caught O'Neill Cruz's fly ball in the top of the ninth inning by tracing back to the central fence. The speed of the ball was measured at 105.3 miles per hour, which was difficult for fielders to handle. At his fourth at bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, he failed to hit a straight hit to the first base, and ended the game with one hit.

In the meantime, the team continued a tight race with Pittsburgh. Flores' RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed the game to be tied 1-1, and Tellez's sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning allowed the game to be tied until the bottom of the ninth inning.

The team that broke the 1-1 tie was Pittsburgh. Reynolds took the batter's box with one out and the second base, and drew a two-run arch that flew over the left fence to target Tyler Rogers' first pitch sweeper. As follow-up hitter Hayes sent the ball over the fence, the gap between the two teams widened to three points.

San Francisco followed 3-4 with Soler's two-run shot from second base in the bottom of the 10th inning. After the strikeout of the follow-up batter Confoto, Estrada hit a single to pressure Pittsburgh, but the game ended as pinch-hitter Ramonte Wade Jr. and Mike Yastremski both struck out.

The two teams will play the last game of three consecutive games at the same venue on Tuesday. The San Francisco Giants will select Keaton Wynn and the Pittsburgh Pirates will select Jared Jones.
