IBIA Records Suspicious Sports Betting Warning In Q2

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) anti-corruption agency reported 88 suspicious betting warnings in the three months to the end of June.

The group, previously known as ESSA Sports Betting Integrity, used its official press release (pdf) on Wednesday to detail that the second quarter figures for the year included eight football-related sports, giving it 32 specific cases. The London-based company also described tennis and 12 horse races, which recorded 27 cases, rounded up the top three events in the three months and accounted for more than 80% of the total quarterly alert set.

Analytical Alliance:

The IBIA, founded in 2005, describes itself as a "leading global voice on the integrity of the license betting industry," which serves as a "very effective anti-corruption tool" for detecting and recording suspicious betting activities using "detailed consumer data" through its monitoring and alert platform. It also released a quarterly report outlining alerts collected in advance by regulators, saying it had a "longstanding information-sharing partnership with leading sports and gambling regulators" that would allow regulators to "indict corruption."

European prominence:

In further subdividing its second-quarter results, the IBIA said 36 individual jurisdictions were alerted, with European countries accounting for about half, at 52%. The company also noted that of these burgeoning territories, Asia was followed by 15% in North American countries such as Canada and the United States.

Embryo test:

The IBIA claimed that Ontario, Canada, has served as a "major focus of regulatory interest during the second quarter" since April, when it began opening its online sports betting market to some of the world's most prominent iGaming operators, including FanDuel Group, DraftKings Inc. and Northstar Gaming Inc. Prior to the premiere, the company was "certified as an independent integrity monitor" by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission, and said its current membership was "growing steadily" and "represented the majority of operators currently offering sports betting in the region."

Synopsis Range:

In compiling its second-quarter results, the IBIA said it had recorded 10 warnings for the same amount of North American horse racing related to table tennis tournaments around the world. The agency also said there were four suspected fraud cases involving a pair from the South American continent and esports.
