21 Sihanoukville Casino Small Open

A total of 21 casinos in Cambodia's coastal state of Sihanoukville have asked authorities to authorize them to resume operations, the Phnom Penh Post reported on Wednesday, citing Keng Pearum, a spokesperson for the Preah Sihanouk state government.

Owners must obtain permission before Cambodia's health ministry, and adopt COVID-19 precautions before such a restart is possible, the outlet reported, citing Mr Pearum.

All casinos in Cambodia have been ordered to suspend operations from April 1 as part of efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

On July 3, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said casinos in the country would be allowed to reopen if certain public health requirements were met.

Hong Kong-listed casino group Naga Corp Ltd announced on July 19 that it had been allowed by the Cambodian government to reopen "all casino businesses" at its NagaWorld gaming complex in Phnom Penh, including a large market gaming table.

Other casino owners in Babet and Puypet, two border cities serving mainly for Vietnamese and Thai customers, have yet to approach the government regarding the reopening, Phnom Penh Post reported, citing a finance ministry official, May van.

The reason was that the Vietnam-Thailand border was still closed to travelers, the official said.

Australian-listed casino operator Donaco International confirmed in Wednesday's filing that it was awaiting Cambodian government inspections of clubs at its Star Vegas resort and Poipet, a precondition for reopening.
