The Goddess of Freedom Casino Sihanoukville Opens

The new casino site, the Goddess of Freedom hotel and casino, officially opened in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, on Wednesday. The opening ceremony (pictured) was attended by several government officials, according to data released on Cambodia's Ministry of Interior's official website.

The Cambodian beach town of Sihanoukville is an expanding gaming hub in Cambodia. While much media attention has recently been focused on the issue of casino streaming services based in the region that have been reportedly targeting Chinese customers abroad, Sihanoukville also boasts many brick and mortar casino projects. Many of the projects are linked to stock market filings and media reports, as well as Chinese investment.

Cambodian authorities granted 13 casino licenses in the first four months of the year, the Khmer Times reported in June. The Cambodian newspaper quoted a Finance Ministry official in Phnom Penh, Los Pearoun, as saying at the time that authorities had granted a total of 163 casino licenses nationwide by then. Pearoun said 91 of the licenses were for casinos in the Preah Sihanouk province, where Sihanoukville is located.
