As a merchant owner on Mont Royal West, I fully agree with this statement. Projet Montreal was elected with great confidence in the Plateau Mont Royal borough and therefore deserves the opportunity to enact the will of the people. AND, the car IS a divisive element, and so making its use a little inconvenient is a small price to pay for its ecological and social impact. The negative contribution cars make to our environment deserves to be taxed. For the record, I have not posted the petition at my business.

Elected with great conficence!!  They were certainly elected democratically and as such have every right and authority to govern freely, even if the majority of Plateau eligible voters did not/not vote for Project Montreal.  Also a great number of persons voted for them to protest.  In democracies people are allowed to protest, they are allowed to challenge bad governemnt.  Have you already forgotten the Parc Avenue issue already?  The "will of the people??? A pretty heavy statement when taken in context.  Saying that cars are divisive is like saying horses are divisive.  Yes cars were and are great polluters but some people simply do not have a choice.  Drivers are already gouged by oil companies, taxes, and special gas taxes.  Taxes will continue to rise.  Don't worry government will find a way to tax electric cars as well.  Cars have changed our world in many positive ways or should we go back to horse and buggy?  Taxing people is not the solution but making public transport convenient and affordable is the way to go.  Small price?  I guess maybe for you but for a lot of families in Montreal every penny must be held tight.  For the record, I don't care whether you posted it or not.
